Preparing For Your Trip

WHAT TO WEAR

One thing that people often overlook is the most important part of their gear and that is their clothing and how they plan on dressing for the ice. Here’s some recommendations for “Outside he ice house” vs. Inside the ice house”:

INSIDE the warmth and protection of the ice house you can stay warm wearing a pair of decent boots, jeans, a shirt, a hat, pullover fleece or jacket.

OUTSIDE the ice house, depending on the temperature, the wind, and the weather conditions, you need to be prepared. Layering is the key to keeping yourself prepared for the cold.

Start with your feet. Make sure your boots are waterproof. If your feet get cold, you’re cold all over. Fortunately there are plenty of boots that do a great job. Keep your head warm. Wear a good fleece jacket or sweatshirt with a hood. Remember is that if you keep your core warm, chest and back, you will be able to keep the rest of your body warm as well. A good pair of fleece pants or fleece lined pants over the base layer, and fleece will keep your warm even if it gets wet. The last layer will consist of a good waterproof, windproof and breathable insulated suit. Layering allows you to add or remove layers to properly protect you from the elements.

Staying warm and dry on the ice will allow you to enjoy your time outdoors.
